C La Vie marks a new chapter in the work of choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly and in his virtuoso, generous, committed and powerful dance, which is bursting with wild energy. As with each of his creations, Serge Aimé Coulibaly revisits African cultures, drawing inspiration from initiation rituals, the role of masks and the spoken word, and linking them to the contemporary global context.
With C la Vie Serge Aimé Coulibaly embraces the great tradition of initiation stories, while creating a resolutely contemporary work using body language, voice, music and video.
The 9 performers join on stage – a public square where anything can happen and nothing is lost. As they embark on this adventure, they examine our contemporary world and our lives, with its often disastrous and complex realities. They approach this transition toward other possibilities without answers or final goals, but with one single commitment: to live and create it together.
On stage, the elements converge to interrogate and explore the themes of the folly of the times, its ugliness, the grotesque spectacle of our society with its great empty speeches, the repetition of history and then joy too.
In this performance, Serge Aimé Coulibaly invites us to question our choices as human beings and citizens: Why and how can we give meaning to our lives?
