Tomorrow at 8:30 pm it finally happens: the premiere of FOE, the new performance by Kristien De Proost.
Based on the novel Foe by J.M. Coetzee, the piece raises questions that feel strikingly urgent today. What is truth, what is fiction? Who gets a voice, and who is silenced?
Together with Josse De Pauw, Görges Ocloo, and Rinus Martha Chaerle, Kristien brings this story to the stage. Görges composed new music especially for FOE and will perform it live — adding an extra layer that makes the tension between silence and voice, between power and powerlessness, resonate.
Whether this August premiere is the first spark of a new season, or the final chord of the previous one for dramaturge Sara Vanderieck — remains an open question. What is certain, however, is that FOE opens up a new conversation about who writes stories, and who is allowed to tell them.
For Sara, this collaboration is a special one: it is already the third time she joins forces with Kristien De Proost and scenographer & costume designer Marie Szersnovicz. After Simon, Garfunkel, my Sister & Me and In the middle of nowhere, FOE marks another step in their ongoing search for who speaks and who does not, how power and powerlessness unfold in relationships, and how the boundary between reality and imagination keeps shifting.
Premiere: Thursday, August 21, 2025 – 8:30 pm
Location: Bijloke Wonderland – LOD studio, Ghent
